Ash Creek Saloon World Rib Eating Championship

Location: Black Rock, CT
Date: 08-17-2008
Winner: Humble Bob Shoudt

Results In a stunning upset, Bob Shoudt took the title of Ash Creek Saloon World Rib Eating Champion today, besting Joey Chestnut at his own game. Chestnut has only once before been beaten in the rib discipline. The hot dog champ came in second, followed by Eater X in third and the lovely Juliet Lee in fourth.

On Sunday, August 17, The Nutmeg State will once again play host to the Ash Creek Saloon World Rib Eating Championship. Joey Chestnut holds the world record in the rib discipline with 8.4 lbs in 12 minutes. The Ash Creek ribs have been described by the eaters as some of the fastest and most delicious ribs on the circuit. Sometimes the more delicious ribs aren't good for competition due to the Wonka effect (i.e. when the food is too delicious and the competitors are distracted and slowed just as Charlie Bucket was by the many wonders of the chocolate factory). However, the Ash Creek Ribs have the distinction of having both desirable qualities.

The prize money will again be a hefty $5000.

Registration for this event is now closed.

Voted BEST RIBS and BBQ in both Ct. Magazine and the Fairfield County Weekly for 9 out of 10 years, Ash Creek has expanded their culinary horizons and are now considered one the best known and most popular dining establishments in Connecticut, serving more than 200,000 people a year.
