On Saturday, September 27th, a group of the world's finest competitive eaters will converge on Harvard Square in Cambridge to compete in the 5th annual b.good Garlicky Greens Eating Championship. Garlicky Greens are a dish of lightly sauteed spinach and garlic and a signature item of the popular b.good restaurant.
Pretty Boy Pete Davekos, New England's top-ranked Major League Eater, is expected to compete at the b.good Garlicky Greens Eating Championship. Davekos has competed in all variety of foods, having consumed 32 Krystal Hamburgers in eight mintues and 21 Hot Dogs and Buns in ten minutes.
"I am thrilled to bring Major League Eating to Boston and to take b.good's annual Garlicky Greens Eating Championship to the next level," said Jon Olinto, co-founder of b.good. "While Davekos is known for his eating prowess, I think he will face stiff competition because the b.good regulars that are registered to compete are our most loyal, iron-gulleted, spinach predators. We are confident that they will not let us down. The b.good championship belt will stay in the family no matter how many professional eaters the MLE sends."
Among the regulars Davekos will face is Betsy's Boy (a.k.a Michael Cobb), the 2007 b.good Garlicky Greens Eating Champion. Last year, Betsy's Boy consumed three and one quarter pounds of spinach and garlic in five minutes to win the title.
"Betsy's Boy may think he has the strength of Popeye but I plan to crush him on the 27th," said Davekos, a North Shore native who currently resides in Boston. "Major League Eating is a sport that requires jaw strength and stomach capacity, I possess both these things."
The b.good event will take place at 24 Dunster Street in Cambridge's Harvard Square. The street will be shut down for the b.good event.
