Sonya "The Black Widow" Thomas was vindicated at Peter's Clam Bar on Memorial Day after winning the World Cherrystone Clam Eating Championship. Thomas, who was just a few minutes late to show up for the contest in 2009, made her presence felt by eating 26 dozen Peter's Clams in 6 minutes to set a new world record.
Defending champ Juliet Lee was valiant in her attempt to keep the title, after eating 23.75 dozen clams. In the end though, she would have no choice but to relinquish the title and world record to her fellow female eating champion.
#6-ranked Eater X finished in third place after eating 19 dozen. The Memorial Day crowd at Peter's was treated to an appearance by Cookie Jarvis who served as honorary judge.
