Joey Chestnut, the world's best competitive eater, finally met his match at the Pepto-Bismol Taco Eating Challenge at the SF Street Food Festival on August 21st. Chestnut succumbed to a team of five local amateurs who collectively took on the Champ in a 5-minute taco eating contest.
Entering the contest, Chestnut was undefeated in his previous two Pepto Food Festival Challenge attempts, beating 5-person teams in pizza in Portland and ice cream in Austin. The amateurs found their sweet spot with tacos, however, and although Chestnut ate 27 tacos by himself, the team edged him by 4 after downing a collective 31.
The loss was followed by a dose of Pepto which has Joey covered as he tours some of the country's top Summer Food Festivals challenging teams of local amateurs. Next up is the National Buffalo Wing Festival in Buffalo, NY on Labor Day Weekend (September 4th).
