Always one with a soft spot for burritos, Joey Chestnut flew to the New Mexico State Fair and became the 2010 World Burrito Eating Champion. The contest featured burritos from Garcia's Kitchen filled with beef, beens and New Mexico's famous green chile. Chestnut ate an astounding 47 burritos in the 10-minute event to beat second place finisher Gravy Brown (32 burritos) by a healthy margin.
The win netted the world's best eater $1,500 and another title to his legendary bib sheet. In third place was Chillin Peng w/28 and Kobi Bauer, a local eater from Albuquerque, ate 20 to take fourth place. Texan Gary Klucken, who has become a regular on the MLE Circuit, finished out of the money by a half a burrito after eating 19.5.
Chestnut's win looks even more impressive when considering the 2009 winner, Bob Shoudt, ate 33.5 burritos in last year's event.
