Krystal Square Off World Hamburger-Eating Championship

Takeru Kobayashi of Japan won the Krystal Square Off in Chattanooga, TN, by eating 69 Krystals in eight minutes to win $10,000, possession of the Krystal Belt and a hand-blown crystal trophy featuring the favorite Krystal burgers.

Sonya Thomas of Virginia consumed an impressive 46 burgers to place second and win $5,000, while Rich LeFevre of nevada beat out a field of top eaters to place third and take home $2,500.

'Buffalo' Jim Reeves finished fourth with 38 Krystals, topping Eric 'Badlands' Booker, Hungry Charles Hardy, Cookie Jarvis, Carlene LeFevre, Joe LaRue, Sam Vise, Lynn Curley, Matt Ward, Jeff Hicks and Bill Pendleton, who had all qualified for the championship by winning one of 11 qualifying matches in the Southeast.
