Erik "the Red" Denmark crossed another item off his bucket list when he won the Jake Melnick's Battle of the Bhut XXX Wing Eating Championship after eating 35 bhut wings in 5 minutes to edge hometown favorite Pat Bertoletti by a single wing.
The win earned Denmark $1,000 and the respect of the entire table who shared in the test that was Jake Melnick's bhut wings. Jake's signature wings made with two of the hottest peppers on the planet -- the Red Savina Habanero and the Bhut Jolokia. The Bhut Jolokia rates around 1.5 million on the Scoville scale which makes it almost twice as hot as the Red Savina pepper and over 100 times hotter than a jalapeno.
Coming in third place with 33 wings was another Chicago resident MLE'er, Gravy Brown. Gravy won a future party at Jake Melnick's while Bertoletti took home four box seats to a Bulls game.
