JOEY EATS 22-AND-A-QUARTER NIKO NIKO'S GYROS FOR NEW WR! SLAYS YOUTH IN DOING SO!
Age and guile outplayed youth and vigor in Houston, Greece, on May 19, 2013, with world #1 Joey "Jaws" Chestnut downing a new world-record 22.25 Niko Niko's gyros in 10 minutes for the win. Second place, the fresh face of Matt "The Megatoad" Stonie" with 20. Third place, newcomer Miki Sudo with 15.5. Chestnut was his old self on this day—relentless, metronomic, remorseless, cruel. He won. He cares not how.
Three weeks previously, of course, things were very different. At the 2013 Stockton Asparagus Festival Deep-Fried Asparagus Eating Competition held on April 27, it was Stonie who claimed the day, besting Chestnut by a pound. This gyro-eating contest was Chestnut's chance to reset to the ledger, to reassert the establishment, to reclaim his seat on high from which he watches all others. He is in his rightful place today.
Adrian Morgan, Juan Rodriguez and Steve Hendry rounded out the money positions.

About the 2013 Houston Greek Fest The Niko Niko's World Gyro Eating Championship is part of Houston’s Annual Greek Fest. Dimitri Fetokakis and his family have long been supporters of the festival. Houston Greek Fest, now celebrating its 19th anniversary, is a four-day event that features fine homemade Greek food & deserts, Greek wine & beer, Greek folk dancing, Greek shops, vendor booths, children's food, and a large children’s play area. Part of the Festival proceeds are donated to local charities.
