JOEY CHESTNUT SETS NEWS APPLE PIE WORLD RECORD!!

What’s more American than Apple Pie? An MLE-sanctioned eating contest starring Apple Pie! And it was the most American of all Americans, Joey "Jaws" Chestnut who set a new Apple Pie eating record at the inaugural Mapleside Farms World Apple Pie Eating Championship, held in the idyllic surrounds of Brunswick, OH, on September 13th, 2013. He ate 4.375 three-pound pies. That's 35 1/8th slices, people.

Here's what went down as the dusk descended on Mapleside Farms' 40th Annual Johnny Appleseed festival. Three-pound apple pies, plated four slices to a plate in the fashion of a Maltese cross. MLE talent. Eight minutes. Eat. Joey led from the outset, with Tim "Eater X" Janus leading the charge of those who dared to dethrone the Great One. X's capacity has never been questioned, nor his speed. But he simply could not match Chestnut on this day. Chestnut came to the event ready to avenge his recent defeat at the hands of Miki Sudo in the Buffalo Buffet Bowl, held two weeks prior, and so he did. An angry Chestnut is a hungry Chestnut. Chomp, chomp, chomp. Q. E. D.

Sonya Thomas, Yasir Salem, Buffalo Jim Reeves and local hero Scott Thomas rounded out the money positions. Wild Bill Myers enjoyed his 1.125 pies thoroughly, remarking in post-contest conversation that he found the crust "delightful" and "deep in flavor."
