MTV To Set New Popcorn-Eating World Record To Honor MTV Movie Awards

MTV Gathers Nation’s Best Eaters in IFOCE-Sanctioned Event

Hollywood, CA, Friday, May 27, 2005 -- MTV’s Quddus Phillippe will host the First Annual MTV Movie Awards Popcorn-Eating Competition featuring top eating athletes from the International Federation of Competitive Eating.

The Grand Prize Winner of the contest -- to be held at Hollywood & Highland, located at 6801 Hollywood Blvd. in Los Angeles at 12:30 PM on June 8, 2005 -- will receive the MTV Movie Awards talent gift basket worth an estimated $10,000. The MTV Movie Awards air on June 9 at 8:30 PM (ET/PT).

Competing in the event will be world popcorn-eating champion Crazy Legs Conti (seven bags of popcorn in 12 minutes), world chili-eating champion Rich LeFevre (1 ½ gallons of chili in 10 minutes), 100-pound world oyster-eating champion Sonya Thomas (46 dozen oysters in 10 minutes), and world posole-eating champion Carlene LeFevre (6.8 pounds of posole in 12 minutes), among others.

MTV: Music Television has announced that Mariah Carey and Eminem are set performer at the 2005 MTV MOVIE AWARDS. In addition, Tom Cruise, The Rock, Iaon Gruffard, Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Chiklis, Rob Schneider, and Julian McMahon have joined the star studded list of presenters. Previously announced presenters include Hilary Swank, Vin Diesel, Jessica Simpson, Johnny Knoxville, Jessica Alba, Hilary Duff, Zach Braff, Sean William Scott, Rob Schneider, Lindsay Lohan, Ziyi Zhang, Paul Walker, Jessica Biel, Billy Bob Thornton, Salma Hayek, and Katie Holmes. Hosted by Jimmy Fallon, the fourteenth annual awards show will air on June 9th at 8:30PM (ET/PT). The ceremony will tape on June 4th at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, CA. More presenters, special guest appearances and award tributes will be announced shortly.

This is an IFOCE event and the IFOCE will handle all registration via www.IFOCE.com. Only those over the age of 18 may apply for registration.
