MLE / IFOCE to Raise $100,000 for Hunger Charities

10-23-2007

Major League Eating and the International Federation of Competitive Eating have donated $10,000 to Second Harvest and selected organizations to kick off a campaign to raise $100,000 for hunger charities.

The initiative, which will include donations from the league, eaters, clients and fans, follows IFOCEgives, a similar effort that raised more than $50,000 for charities including Second Harvest and the American Red Cross.

“We hope to encourage hundreds of individuals and organizations to give to hunger charities during this campaign,” said president Richard Shea. “A very small donation can feed thousands of people, and we will use our platform to help combat hunger.”

Shea said MLE will help to facilitate the donation process to Second Harvest and other hunger-related charities, and that the organization will continue to help cystic fibrosis and lung cancer groups as it has for years.
