Chestnut defeats Kobayashi in Singapore

05-09-2010

Joey Chestnut beat Takeru Kobayashi in the CP Biggest Eater Competition in Singapore Sunday afternoon. Joey ate 380 shrimp wontons (76 bowls of 5) to Kobayashi's 370 during the 8-minute competition in front of a capacity crowd at Bishan Junction 8 Mall.

Seconds into the contest, Chestnut pulled ahead by 10 wontons scooping them out of the bowl without hesitation. His lead would quickly evaporate 2 minutes in when Kobayashi, opting to use a fork for the first half of the contest, surged ahead by 15-20 wontons. Koby's lead remained until about 3 minutes to go. Chestnut, sparked by hearing the crowd cheer when Koby's lead was announced, pulled ahead in the final two minutes and held on for the victory.

The contest capped off a full day of CP Biggest Eater Shrimp Wonton contests featuring 30 Singapore eaters and also crowd favorite Juliet Lee who ate 160 wontons in an 8-minute exhibition prior to the Chestnut-Kobayashi battle.
